- Edutainment tour
- At the Fat Margaret
- For foreign student groups (teenagers) up to 24 participants
- In English (recommended language level for participants at least B1)
- Duration: 60-70 min
The aim of this edutainment tour is to learn about the medieval trade and the role of Hanseatic League in the wealth of Tallinn. Within this topic we observe and learn about the cargo ship called Peeter’s cog, an example of mediaeval Hanseatic ship, which was unearthed at a construction site at the seaside of Tallinn in 2015. We discuss the timeline of European and world events throughout the centuries in order to understand the local events. We examine the archaeological finds from the cog and try to get an understanding of what life on a ship was like during medieval times. Techniques used in archaeology combine natural sciences and the study of history in an active, hands-on way. Since the cog was a cargo ship, the activities also focus on comparing modern and medieval trade in one way or another. We also give an overview of the history of Tallinn and explore the view of the Old Town from the roof of Fat Margaret. We discuss the features of a medieval port and town.
More specific focus can be agreed on with the client upon making the tour’s reservation.
After the program, participants will have the opportunity to explore the exposition on their own.
