From Friday, 29 July, the visitors of the Fat Margaret Tower can view the exhibition ‘Song of the Sirens’ (Sireenide laul) by Estonian painter Lola Tehver for free.

‘Maritime culture also lives in the realm of art. Until now, we have brought sea-inspired creations to the public as a part of our permanent exhibition or temporary exhibitions. From now on, we want to pay more attention to it – artworks dedicated to and inspired by the sea convey a part of maritime culture that cannot be put into words. To begin with, we want to highlight Lola Tehver’s work, which reveals beliefs born thousands of years ago about the connection between the sea and women. We will continue with the works of other Estonian artists inspired by the sea,’ said Urmas Dresen, Head of the Estonian Maritime Museum.

Lola Tehver’s painting exhibition ‘Song of the Sirens’ (Sireenide laul) can be viewed for free in the gallery on the ground floor of the Fat Margaret Tower. It includes eight colourful works, each of which deals with the form of being a woman and the conscious use of female energy.

‘I am glad that art is moving increasingly closer to people and in more and more unexpected places. The stories about sirens that inspired my paintings are stories about a certain powerful component that is preserved in women despite all of the cultural layers. This became a secret that we often forget – women have a power that is within us naturally. Truth be told, it is in all of us, but for some primal reason, women can access it much more easily. Only by recognising and acknowledging the forces hidden within us can each of us find balance in our lives and make changes,’ said the painter Lola Tehver.

As a painter, Lola Tehver has participated in several international group exhibitions in Venice (2014) as well as in Finland (2020) and Latvia (2021). Since 2016, her work has been featured at several group and individual exhibitions in Estonia. Her artwork can be found in many private collections in Estonia and abroad.

The opening event of Lola Tehver’s painting exhibition ‘Song of the Sirens’ (Sireenide laul) will take place in the Fat Margaret Tower on Thursday, 28 July. From 29 July until the end of this year it can be viewed in the gallery on the ground floor of the Fat Margaret Tower. At that time, you can buy the works of the painting exhibition in the Fat Margaret Tower (holders of our loyalty card MM KAART will have a discount -10%). Lola Tehver’s creations can be found on her website.
