November 19 marked the 250th anniversary of the birth of Admiral Adam\nJohann von Krusenstern, a Baltic German explorer. Memorial events took place in\nKrusenstern\u2019s last resting place in Tallinn Cathedral and in his birthplace\nHagudi manor. The international school youth competition dedicated to\nKrusenstern is over. <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cKrusenstern\u2019s\nheritage is rich. Under his leadership, in 1803\u20131806, the flag of the Russian\nNavy was moved around the world for the first time, and based on exploration\nvoyages in the Pacific Ocean, he compiled the first accurate map collection of\nthe world\u2019s largest ocean,\u201d said Urmas Dresen, head of the Estonian Maritime\nMuseum. He added that on the 200th anniversary of the first edition of the\nKrusenstern Atlas, published in 1824, the theme of the famous Baltic German\nsailors would be brought to the audience with an exhibition at the Seaplane\nHarbor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Estonian schoolchildren took part in an international competition\ndedicated to Krusenstern\u2019s birthday<\/strong>, in which Evelin Tanis, a student of Tallinn High\nSchool of Humanities<\/strong>, won a prize in the younger age group. The competition\nconsisting of a quiz and an essay was initiated by the World St. Petersburg\nClub, which involved the city of Tallinn in reaching the local students. The\nEstonian Maritime Museum with the Polar Club, the Estonian History Museum, the\nHistory Museum of the University of Tartu, Kiltsi School, the Tallinn Linnam\u00e4e\nRussian Lyceum, and the Maritime Administration participated in the work of the\nEstonian jury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On the 250th birthday of Adam Johann von Krusenstern, memorial candles\nwere lit, and flowers were placed in Tallinn Cathedral<\/strong>, where\nAdmiral Krusenstern and his wife have their last resting place. Spoke Arho\nTuhkru, a teacher at EELC Tallinn Episcopal Cathedral, Aleksandr Petrov,\nAmbassador of Russia, Urmas Dresen, Head of the Estonian Maritime Museum, and\nAlexander Karaulov from the Shipping Veterans Club, who presented a copy of the\nImperial Russian Admiral\u2019s Flag to the Cathedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On the evening of November 19, a festive memorial evening was held at\nHagudi Manor, the birthplace of Krusenstern<\/strong>. A plaque\nwith the image of the sailing ship \u201cNade\u017eda\u201d was installed on the memorial\nbench, with which Krusenstern made a voyage around the world. During the\nmemorial evening, Tiit Pruuli also shared his experiences from a sea voyage in\nhonor of the discovery of Antarctica by the Baltic German explorer Admiral\nBellingshausen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n According to\nPiret Laur, the most active villagers of Hagudi have always kept the heritage\nof Krusenstern in honor: \u201cA memorial stone created by the artist Ermi Littover\nwas erected at the gate of Hagudi manor under a linden tree under protection,\nwhich can also commemorate the childhood of the young Adam Johann. On the 100th\nbirthday of the Republic of Estonia, the villagers placed a bench on the\nboulders in front of the Admiral\u2019s birthplace. This summer, however, the tracks\nat the manor house were cleared of bushes, and the barn was cleared to give a\nnew use to the square in front of the manor and to the barn-carriage shed on\nthe day of the cafes in the village of Hagudi. The income of the day will be\nused as a seed for the construction of the Hagudi manor exhibition, which will\nintroduce the life of Krusenstern, the manor, and the village.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Adam J. von\nKrusenstern was born on November 19, 1770, in Hagudi, in the Krusenstern family\nmanor, which belonged to them from 1650 until the nationalization of manors in\n1920.
