{"id":25626,"date":"2020-09-02T14:38:31","date_gmt":"2020-09-02T12:38:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/meremuuseum.ee\/?p=25626"},"modified":"2020-09-02T14:38:34","modified_gmt":"2020-09-02T12:38:34","slug":"admiral-bellingshausens-crew-planted-trees-in-paldiski","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/meremuuseum.ee\/en\/blog\/2020\/09\/02\/admiral-bellingshausens-crew-planted-trees-in-paldiski\/","title":{"rendered":"Admiral Bellingshausen&#8217;s crew planted trees in Paldiski"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Today, on 30\nAugust 75 members of <em>Admiral\nBellingshausen<\/em>&#8216;s crew, accompanied by the President of the Republic Kersti\nKaljulaid and the employees of L\u00e4\u00e4ne-Harju Municipality, planted 106 park trees\nin Paldiski. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>Admiral Bellingshausen<\/em>&#8216;s voyage was not something\nfor a narrow circle; it is the business of all of us,\u201d said the President of\nthe Republic Kersti Kaljulaid who has served as a sailor on <em>Admiral Bellingshausen<\/em>. \u201cWhile the effects\nof CO2 are not visible to everyone, the trees planted today will be visible to the\nlocal residents,\u201d Kaljulaid noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tiit Pruuli, the\nhead of the <em>Antarctic 200<\/em> expedition,\nsaid that the idea of making up for the ecological footprint caused by the main\nengines and the air travel of the sea voyage occurred in January while the\nvessel was in Antarctica, and he expressed thanks to Aivar Berzin and Heiti\nH\u00e4\u00e4l for actually implementing the idea. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is estimated\nthat the 106 trees planted today will bind about 170,683 kg of CO2 over a\nhundred years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, <em>Admiral Bellingshausen<\/em>&#8216;s captains Indrek\nLepp, Meelis Saarlaid and Indrek Kivi, mechanics, scientists, sailors from\nEstonian Maritime Museum and elsewhere, and L\u00e4\u00e4ne-Harju Municipality participated\nin the campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The popular science\norientated expedition marking the 200th anniversary of the discovery of\nAntarctica was organized by the non-profit organisation MT\u00dc Thetis\nEkspeditsioonid and by the Foundation of Estonian Maritime Museum. Seminars and\nmeetings were held during the sea voyage, in order to draw attention to\nmaritime history and to one of the explorers of Antarctica born in Saaremaa,\nRussian Admiral Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen, as well as to climate and\nenvironmental problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Until November, those\ninterested will be able to visit a touring exhibition of the sea voyage,\nprepared by Estonian Maritime Museum and displayed at the Natural History\nMuseum of the University of Tartu and then in Narva Castle, as well as read about\nBaltic German explorers at the permanent exposition in Fat Margaret Tower in\nTallinn, and visit the <em>Antarctica 200<\/em>\ntheme area at the Seaplane Harbour.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Today, on 30 August 75 members of Admiral Bellingshausen&#8216;s crew, accompanied by the President of the Republic Kersti Kaljulaid and the employees of L\u00e4\u00e4ne-Harju Municipality, planted 106 park trees in&#8230;","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":25557,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_uag_custom_page_level_css":"","advgb_blocks_editor_width":"","advgb_blocks_columns_visual_guide":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v22.8 -
