Citation Guidelines

Upon using materials of the Estonian Maritime Museum, you will have to cite the sources. Please use an applicable citation system for citing the museum’s publications.

For the Historical Objects Collection and Underwater Archaeology Collection, please use: museum reference (MM or Estonian Maritime Museum), accession number, collection reference (Aj e or Aa, respectively) and collection serial number, e.g.: MM 4/1 Aj e 466 or MM 2403/1 Aa 20.

The same system also applies to subcollections of the Historical Objects Collection:

For citing the Documents Collection: name of the document and (between parentheses) museum reference (MM or Estonian Maritime Museum), accession number, collection reference (D) and serial number, e.g.: New York Estonian Workers’ Club membership card, issued to August Allemow (MM 439/1 D 3/1).

For citing the Photo Collection: museum reference (MM or Estonian Maritime Museum), collection reference (F), collection serial number and name of the photo, e.g.: MM F 11/1, ‘Taaliku sadam’.

For citing the Charts Collection: museum reference (MM or Estonian Maritime Museum), accession number, collection reference (Mk), collection serial number, name of the chart, and author or publisher of the chart, e.g.: MM 550/5 Mk 9/5, ‘Liivi laht’, published by Eesti Veeteede Amet.

For citing the Audiovisual Collection: museum reference (MM or Estonian Maritime Museum), accession number, collection reference (Av), the name of the archival, e.g.: MM 12339 Av, DVD ‘Tallinna Merepäevad 2009’.

For citing the Depot Library: author, title, place of publication, year of publication, page number, and (between parentheses) museum reference (MM or Estonian Maritime Museum), accession number, collection reference (Frk) and serial number, e.g.: O. Peterson, Merikaubandusõigus: õpperaamat merikoolidele (Tallinn, 1925), p. 20 (MM 576/8 Frk 1/8).

For citing the Art Collection: museum reference (MM or Estonian Maritime Museum), accession number, collection reference (K), collection serial number, author (use ‘Unknown author’ if the author is not known) and title, e.g.: MM 20 K 2, M. Mei, Aurulaev Storfürsten.

For citing the Printed Material Collection: museum reference (MM or Estonian Maritime Museum), accession number, collection reference (Tr), collection serial number, name of the printed material, e.g.: MM 852/1 Tr 5/7, a fish can label for ‘Tallinna kilud’.

For citing the Precious Metals Collection: museum reference (MM or Estonian Maritime Museum), accession number, collection reference (Aj v), collection serial number, e.g.: MM 1873 Aj v 1095.
For citing the Research Collection: the name of the object or archival, museum reference (MM or Estonian Maritime Museum), collection reference (TA), number, e.g.: correspondence (MM TA di 6).

Exhibition ‘Communism in its Time’ in our gunpowder magazine

In the framework of the memorial conference “The Heritage in 21st Century Europe of the Crimes Committed by Communist Regimes” organized by the Estonian Institute of Historical Memory in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Estonia in the framework of the Estonian Presidency in the Council of the European Union the exhibition “Communism in its Time” is to be opened in the Maritime Museum gunpowder magazine (Uus st. 37).

The Seaplane Harbour will be closed in February!

The Seaplane Harbour is renewing itself. between 30 January 2017 and 27 February 2017.
The Fat Margaret artillery tower will remain open!

05. December

Rescue Helicopter Arrived to Seaplane Harbour!

On 24 March 2017 we are going to open an exhibition about search and rescue titled “MAYDAY.MAYDAY.MAYDAY”. In the wee hours of 16 November one of the most important exhibits already arrived to our premises: the rescue helicopter MI-8.
